Happy New Year

3rd January 2014

Well it has been a few months since the last update but things have been busy in Bespoke World!

During August and September we were catering at various locations for the team involved with Gareth Malone's 'Sing While You Work' BBC2 Programme which recently aired our screens over the last month or so, with the final on screen 2 weeks ago. The first round of where the choirs competed against each other was held at London's Royal Academy of Music, over 4 days Glyn and the team catered for on average 190 covers, per day, 2-3 times a day. The next stage was held at El-Shaddai International Christian Centre in London, where James and the team provided lunch, dinner and an evening snack for 185 covers - the facilities were quite limited which meant James had to set up his kitchen from scratch.

The final was held in Ely Cathedral, where again James provided lunch and dinner for 150 covers, with limited catering facilities! Unfortunately none of the team got their 5 minutes of fame, although we did get a glimpse of Glyn's hand, and one of our teams uniform.

Whilst James and his team were busy with the cameras, Wayne was in Epping catering for the 1st of 3 functions for a regular client, it started with a staff BBQ and bar for 150 covers, the following day we catered for their daughters 18th party which was Chinese inspired bowl food and hot buffet dishes, and the following week was for the clients joint 50th birthday party, where nearly 200 guests enjoyed various canapes on arrival, including the 'bunless burger topped with a fried quails egg', 'braised oxtail and red onion marmalade mini kilner jars, which was filled with Applewood smoke too' before sitting down for their three course meal.

We also catered on Friday 4th Oct for the annual FBE Dinner which we have catered for, for the last 5 or so years, and are also booked to cater for them again next year too, this is held at Colchester Moot Hall where various companies in the building trade meet for their annual dinner.

Colchester Institute Graduation followed on Friday 11th Oct and Saturday 12th Oct keeping James and Wayne busy in the kitchens, where the graduates ate various hot and cold canapes per session where we catered for 1010 graduates over the two days, and 40 VIP's which included the Mayor and Mayoress of Colchester, lecturers and the principle of Colchester Institute too. Some of the canapes were; mini honey and mustard cocktail sausages, smoked salmon and cream cheese blinis, red onion marmalade and goats cheese pizza and of course a mini Colchester pudding.
Whilst on the subject of Colchester Pudding, Glyn and his team were based at Frinton Golf Club for the annual Frinton Literary Festival, where a very special guest was discussing her new book, the lovely Prue Leith was Saturdays guest, 136 guests enjoyed a 2 course sit down lunch which was; bacon wrapped pork fillet on a bed of chorizo patatas bravas and aioli Hollandaise for their main course, and Colchester Pudding for their dessert, Prue had some suggestions for the classic pudding which has recently been revived by two very familiar faces but more on that in the coming weeks!

Moving on to November now and various meetings and tastings too place for future weddings and events.

We were at the Reid Rooms for a couple of weddings and also the Reading Rooms in Great Yeldham during the first couple of weeks in November.
Not to mention catering for Weston Homes, and another site launch they were holding, this was in St Albans where around 100 guests enjoyed various bowl food dishes, including Texan Corn Dogs, Mini Steak and Ale Pies, and Seafood Paella.

Lots of Business Buffets kept us busy too during the weekdays with buffets getting delivered to Layer, Great Oakley, Langford, Colchester, Clacton, Lexdon, Alresford and more.

We were asked to provide the catering for a school in Brentwood, which had recently undergone a revamp, there was a special guest to reopen the school too, and Glyn was happy to meet him too, MP for Brentwood and Ongar, the Rt. Hon. Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government

December was nearly fully booked with functions on every weekend from Cancer Research Mistletoe Ball, held at Colchester Moot Hall, we have catered for this for around 6 years now, and it is an annual event which raises money for Cancer Research, with lots of fundraising on the night including a large auction.

We helped the community too with donating our popcorn machine to Frinton COOP Funeral Services, for them to sell popcorn at Frinton late night shopping to help local charities. We also donated one of our urns to a pop up shop in Clacton, which was to help elderly and homeless people during December.

On Monday 23rd December we had 2 functions at Colchester Moot Hall, one was the staff party for Fenn Wright employees, which we have catered for many years now, around 100 employees enjoy a three course sit down Christmas lunch, before taking part in various party games and quiz games too.

The second was held for Ellisions Solicitors in the Mayors Parlour and adjoining rooms, where around 80 guests had various canapes and bowl food dishes which included; baby cheeseburgers, fish and chips and apple crumble to name a few.

Straight after Christmas it was back in the kitchens for our chefs as they had another canape and bowl food party for a 50th birthday party in Langham, Thai fishcakes, brie and cranberry tarts, mini Yorkshire puddings with roast beef, crab and prawn vol au vents, tiramisu filled choux buns, chocolate cups with snowball mousse and Christmas pudding cheesecake were a selection of what was on the menu, they also tucked into bacon rolls at midnight, for those who were a little peckish!

Now we are near the end of 2013, and it was New Year's Eve, James and his team were at Frinton Golf Club for their annual party, and Wayne and the team were at Colchester Moot Hall for the Mayor and Mayoress' Dinner, everyone was happy and saw the New Year in with a glass of Champagne in hand.

We would like to wish everyone a very happy new year, and look forward to catering for you in 2014 and beyond, from all at Bespoke Caterers xx
